Flight Route Details
Departing Birdsville we head west to Big Red and the Simpson Desert before turning south for the Goyder Lagoon and its thousands of finger-like channels. We then cross the Birdsville Track while tracking to the Coongie Lakes National Park, an elaborate series of Lakes fed by the Cooper Creek and which make up a world recognised Ramsar wetland area.
Often abundant with nesting migrant birds, the Coongie Lakes are an important part of the Innamincka Regional Reserve and a true oasis in the desert with large River Red Gums standing tall on their banks. On our return we traverse the rich red gibber country of the Sturt Stony Desert before taking up the Diamantina River. We follow the Diamantina River alongside the Birdsville Track and overfly the famous Racecourse and pub before landing back at Birdsville.
Birdsville Aviation operate 2 aircraft including a Cessna Grand Caravan which features high wing, air-conditioning, 14 seats and turbine engine reliability. It also operates a Cessna 210 which is a 5 seater, high wing aircraft utilised for smaller parties.
