Flight Route Details:
Departing Birdsville we head west to Big Red and Simpson Desert before turning south for the Goyder Lagoon.
We then cross the Birdsville Track and traverse over the rich red gibber of the Sturt Stony Desert while tracking to the Coongie Lakes National Park. We fly over an elaborate series of Lakes fed by the Cooper Creek, which make up a recognised Ramsar wetland area, often abundant with nesting migrant birds.
We then continue onwards to Innamincka which sits proudly on the banks of the mighty Cooper Creek, the second longest river in Australia to the Murray-Darling.
We land at Innamincka and are picked up by vehicle to meet the InnaCruises flat bottom river touring boat for our guided cruise along the Cooper Creek. While our informative guide gives us the history of the area which is known for Burke & Wills, we take in the fauna and flora on the banks of the Cooper Creek while enjoying a morning or afternoon tea platter and beverage.
On return to Innamincka we visit the iconic Innamincka Hotel before returning to the aircraft for our trip home.
We depart Innamincka and track via the Cooper Creek, Strzelecki Desert and Santos oil and gas fields before taking up the Diamantina River. We follow the Diamantina River alongside the Birdsville Track and overfly the famous Racecourse and pub before landing back at Birdsville.
